Siralim 2
A sequel to the oldschool RPG developed by Thylacine, the creators of the first installment in the series.
developer: Thylacine Studios publisher: Thylacine Studios Official website
Siralim 2, available on AND, PC, etc., is an RPG maintained done in retro style. The project was developed by Thylacine studio, the same team that was behind the first game in the series.
Plot
The creators did not mind creating a complex plot. We simply play as a ruler of a title kingdom, who, in order to save his lands, must go on expeditions to capture monsters and use them to fight the enemies. The original had the same story, but in Siralim 2 it was expanded a little more, adding personality and biographies to the bosses.
Interestingly, the campaign has no finale - new challenges and locations are created endlessly, thanks to a system of procedural generation.
Mechanics
Siralim 2, available on AND, PC etc., is an old-school RPG that resembles the console classics. We observe the action from a top-down perspective, and the gameplay focuses mainly on exploring dungeons, searching for treasures, completing quests and, of course, fighting. Battles are played in a turn-based system, and during them, the hero does not fight personally. Instead, he sends out his monsters. This is similar to the Pokemon series where the player has to catch and then train the creatures. The authors have prepared more than five hundred types of beasts, and each of them has unique skills. What's more, we can also pair creatures - the offspring will inherit the traits of both parents.
The game also features spells which we can be used by the monsters. Besides that, we also have access to the crafting system, which allows players to create new items based on more than six hundred raw materials collected during underground expeditions. The player also has their castle. The money we earn can be invested in improving it (adding additional rooms and buildings), which allows us to gain access to new equipment, missions and characters. The authors also prepared a wide range of side activities, such as gambling with dwarves, studying in the library, cooking dishes or solving puzzles.
Technical aspects
Like the original game, Siralim 2 offers simple retro graphics similar to the games released on 8-bit consoles. The old-school approach is also evident in the soundtrack.
