Shiren The Wanderer: The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fate Description
Shiren the Wanderer 5 Plus is a Japanese roguelike RPG released on PSV. This is an extended and improved version of Shiren the Wanderer: The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fate, which was released in 2010 on the Nintendo DS and was never released outside of Japan. Both editions were developed by ChunSoft studio.
Plot
The game belongs to the Mystery Dungeon series, and its action has been set between the second and third installments of the series. We again play the role of a wandering warrior named Shiren, who is accompanied on his journeys by the talkative ferret Koppa.
The scenario revolves around climbing through the next floors of the giant Fortune Tower. According to legends, a deity is waiting on top of it, which can change the fate of every mortal. During the expedition, Shiren and Koppa come across a girl named Tao.
Mechanics
Shiren the Wanderer 5 Plus is a roguelike RPG. The world is generated randomly with each playthrough, which means that the game can be played many times without the feeling of boredom, and the gameplay focuses on fighting and developing statistics of the hero. Death is permanent and causes the hero's experience level to be reset to zero, all equipment to be lost, and maps to be re-generated with new enemy locations. The fun is enriched by occasional logic puzzles and the day and night cycle - after dusk, our character can only see objects that are a few meters away.
All this is done using an unusual turn-based gameplay system. Each command, whether it is movement, attack or use an item, automatically costs us one turn and allows enemies to perform a single action as well. However, when we don't move, the time stops, allowing us to analyze the situation calmly and plan the next steps.
Technical aspects
Shiren the Wanderer 5 Plus is an extended and improved version of the game released on Nintendo DS. Compared to the original, the authors improved the graphics, increased the resolution, added the ability to look around and extended the campaign with additional dungeons.
