Original, two-dimensional action game, combining the features of side-scroll slashers with puzzles and elements of platformers and games of the genre of metroidvania. We play the role of a sinner who fights for the redemption of wines. Equipped with a sword and shield and an array of special esoteric powers, he travels the black-and-white world fighting enemies, symbolizing his inner demons.
Sinner's Sorrow is a two-dimensional action game released on PC. The title was created by two-person Dutch studio bitHuffel, which debuted in the summer of 2015 with the original arcade game Zenzizenzic.
Story
In Sinner's Sorrow we play the role of the eponymous sinner fighting for his redemption. In order to achieve the goal and save himself from eternal demnation, our protagonist has to overcome a number of obstacles. In order to do so, he travels through the ominous world, represented only in black and white, fighting against the monsters symbolizing his inner demons.
Mechanics
The mechanics of Sinner's Sorrow combines the features of a dynamic, side-scrolling slasher with a deep and dark atmosphere and elements of platformers and metroidvania games. The action of the game is observed in a classic side perspective, and the gameplay boils down to exploration of subsequent gloomy locations, solving puzzles and fighting against various opponents - from simple and relatively weak to powerful bosses, which require both considerable effort and appropriate tactics. The basic weapon of our hero are sword and shield, but during the game we also use a large number of special esoteric powers, acquired and developed as the game progresses.
Technical aspects
Sinner's Sorrow features a very original, two-dimensional visuals, created using the popular Unity engine. Despite the fact that the locations and characters in the game were crafted with great detail and with a truly artistic flair, the game uses only shades of black and white, which may evoke associations with comic books or illustrations from old books and give the game a unique, dark character.
