Plot

Silent Depth 2: Pacific is set during World War II. We play as the commander of a Gato-type submarine, patrolling the Pacific Ocean, serving in the so-called Silent Service. It's up to us how long we'll survive and how many enemy units we'll sink.

Mechanics

Silent Depth 2: Pacific is heavily inspired by the genre's greats, most of all by 1985's Silent Service. It's up to the player to manage their vessel. We must navigate the ocean, carefully search the area, firing our guns and torpedoes when necessary. The game features a day-and-night cycle and variable weather, affecting visibility and other matters. Though the weather conditions can be dangerous, they can also be used to our advantage.

Combat against enemy vessels is a common occurence. If we remain unnoticed, we can take the first shot or quietly retreat, while if the enemy attacks us first, we can counter-attack or run. Combat is slow-paced, requiring skillful use of equipment, weapon systems and implementing correct tactics. The game implements a layered damage system (direct hits can temporarily or permanently deprive us of access to specific systems), while our submarine can only be repaired by visiting the port.

Technical aspects

Silent Depth 2: Pacific features high-quality visuals. The vessel models and realistically animated water are all very appealing.
