First extension to the turn-based strategy of Alpha Centauri signed with the name of Sida Meier. Alien Crossfire introduces a number of changes in the game, including seven new factions.

Work on the official addition to the Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri strategy started already a month after the release of the game. Developers were considering several options, including moving shares to another planet in the Alpha Centauri system or to an abandoned Earth in Civilization II. Eventually, it was decided to stay with the current place of events, so that it was easier to mix old and new threads.

The background to Alien Crossfire is the return of strangers. It turns out that by colonizing the planet, people got involved in a civil war between its original inhabitants.

The extension introduces seven new factions to the game: Cult of Planet, Cybernetic Consciousness, Data Angels, Drones, Nautilus Pirates, Manifold Caretakers and Manifold Usurpers. Each of them has its own leader, special abilities and preferred strategies. It is worth noting that the last two factions are strangers in conflict with each other. Developers also took care of a functional editor for creative players. It allows you to build further factions, so that up to 15 of them can participate in the game at the same time.
