Shellshock is an unusual and slightly humorous action game, combining elements of shooting and simulator and developed under the clear influence of the musical current gangsta rap. The game was created under the responsibility of the Core Design studio team, known mainly for the best-selling adventure game Tomb Raider, numerous adventures and the simulation series Thunderstrike. The game was released on popular PCs and PlayStation and Sega Saturn consoles.
The heroes of the game are the black inhabitants of Bronx, who, with several tanks at their disposal, and the A-10 bomber, set up a private anti-terrorist organisation Da Wardenz, becoming defenders of world peace. Under the leadership of the mysterious Colonel, the heroes set off to save the hostages and support the "good ones", eliminating the hostages of all the evil (especially the white ones) whose evil aspirations pose a threat to human security.
The game centre is the base of the Da Wardenz organisation, consisting of a hangar, a workshop, a check-in room, a training room and a basketball court. In our free time we can freely move around the base area, talking to the characters we meet. During the actual game we sit inside a modern M-13 Predator tank, and the action is shown in the first person perspective, just like in the memorable Quarantine. In the game there are 25 missions of increasing difficulty, during which our task is to efficiently eliminate the attacking enemy troops and selected ground targets. The action is extremely dynamic, and the key to success is high mobility and the ability to avoid firing the opponent (because in the game we see incoming bullets). During the breaks between missions, the money earned can make the necessary repairs and install various improvements in our tank.
In terms of binding, the title is at an average level. The game uses an engine from an earlier Core Design studio - Thunderhawk 2 simulator, which is not entirely suitable for driving a tank. The game environment is fully three-dimensional, but the 3D models are not very detailed and seem flat. An inseparable element of the game is the rapers' style accompanying us at every step (characters, graffiti on the walls and, of course, a properly selected soundtrack).
