Shadow of the Game is an adventure game with elements of cRPG, produced by an independent studio DeRail Games. The action takes place in parallel on two levels - in a fictional MMORPG and the "real" world for it. The main character has to thwart the plans of the cunning Cookie, who plans to kill the other players' characters.
Shadow of the Game is the work of a Norwegian studio DeRail Games, known for such titles as Shock and Awe, CTG or Panic Attack. The production is a kind of variation on the theme of "playing the game".
The action takes place in parallel on two planes. - in a fictional MMORPG Shadow of the Game and in the "real" world for its players. The members of one of the most powerful guilds are preparing for the rally in the last enlargement. The event is so large that even Grizzard developers are attracting attention. The situation is complicated by the unexpected appearance of Cookie, an avatar of a banned player who, supported by powerful allies, wants to take revenge on other players.
The character created by the player is supposed to determine who a cookie is and interfere with the player's plans. This requires action in both the "virtual" and the "real" world. The game is based on elements characteristic for the adventure genre, i.e. exploration of locations, conversations with independent heroes and solving riddles. A curiosity is the combat system implemented in the game, which is based on puzzles.
Shadow of the Game's visual setting unambiguously points to the low-budget nature of production. However, the creators deliberately used simple 2D graphics, which is a clear reference to classic MMORPGs like Ultima Online or Tibia.
