Shackleton Crater is a debut project of Joe Got Games studio, created by the industry veteran Joe Ybarra (co-founder of Electronic Arts). The production is distinguished by a solid factual basis related to the history of the conquest of the Cosmos, including the use of data made available by NASA.
The action of the game takes place around 2030. In order to conquer the cosmos, world powers decide to set up LunarCorp organization, whose aim is to colonize the Moon. The player takes on the role of a representative of one of the nations and tries to give him a dominant position in the race for the silver globe.
The game of Shackleton Crater is divided into four phases, which are basically separate games. The first is the preparation phase for the colonisation of the Moon, in which a space programme should be prepared in the first place. The next step is to build a colony based on the available raw materials. The next phase of exploration takes place, which allows to invent new technologies and obtain a number of historical information. The final stage - utopia is devoted to the implementation of bold projects on a cosmic scale.
The game is a mix of elements known from popular strategy games, including M.U.L.E. SimCity and Seven Cities of Gold. In addition to the one-person campaign, the creators also tempted themselves with a simple multiplayer mode, allowing up to four players to have fun together.
