Until Dawn Video Game Series
A series of horror games under the publishing supervision of Sony Interactive Entertainment. The series was created by the British studio Supermassive Games, which, after the release of its first installment, specialized in this genre, creating such projects as. The Quarry or the brand The Dark Pictures.
Outline of the history of the Until Dawn series
The first installment of the series, i.e. Until Dawn, was announced in 2012. Although the title was initially headed for the PlayStation 3 and was to use the PlayStation Move motion controllers, in 2014 it was revealed that the whole thing had been redesigned and ported to the PlayStation 4. The production, which is an adventure game in terms of mechanics reminiscent of, among others, the bestselling Heavy Rain, made its debut in 2015. The title enjoyed a warm reception from players and reviewers, which also translated into its popularity. While it might seem that, as a result, the creation of its sequel would only be a matter of time, the developers and publisher had other plans.
In 2016, a spin-off of the project, realized in the convention of an on-rails shooter, came to PlayStation VR Until Dawn: Rush of Blood. 2018, meanwhile, brought the release of the series' prequel, an FPP horror game titled The Inpatient (also developed with PlayStation VR in mind). February 2024, meanwhile, saw the announcement of a remastered version of Until Dawn for PlayStation 5 and PC, the development of which was entrusted to the Ballistic Moon team.
The plot in the Until Dawn series games
The first installment of the series Until Dawn tells the story of a group of teenagers who decide to drop everything and go to the mountainsto spend the night there without contact with the world. The situation gets out of hand when it turns out that they are not alone in the house they occupied. From now on, their stay on Blackwood Mountain turns into a real struggle for survival for them.
"The hallmark" of this production is the fact that our actions and choices determine which of the characters manages to survive the night; in doing so, it is possible both to save the entire group and to lead to the death of all its members. As for its remaster - although it did not introduce revolutionary changes, it expanded the plot of the original with new threads.
W Until Dawn: Rush of Blood we sit in a carriage that takes us through successive locations filled with adversaries, and our task is to eliminate the latter. The Inpatient on the other hand, takes us to the Blackwood Pines Sanatorium psychiatric center and allows us to discover the terrible mystery of the place 60 years before the events presented in Until Dawn.
Gameplay in Until Dawn games
Gameplay in productions under the banner of Until Dawn differs, depending on which of them we take on the wallpaper. Until Dawn and its remaster are horror games realized in the convention of TPP adventuresin which we alternate between controlling individual characters and conducting conversations, traversing locations and solving puzzles, as well as facing the threat lurking around us. In addition, we make decisions that affect the further course of the story.
Until Dawn: Rush of Blood is an on-rails shooter, in which we eliminate enemies with firearms, along the way gaining better and better equipment, as well as collecting points. The Inpatient on the other hand, is a FPP adventure game, in which we traverse a dark center and discover its secrets, as well as experience shiver-inducing visions; there's also the necessity to make choices that affect the course of the story.
Graphics in Until Dawn series games
While the first part of the series Until Dawn runs on technology developed for the game Killzone: Shadow Fall, its remaster uses Unreal Engine 5. Until Dawn: Rush of Blood and The Inpatient however, require PlayStation VR goggles.

First-person perspective horror game designed for virtual reality headsets and a prequel to the other work of Supermassive Games studio, Until Dawn. We play as a patient of the Blackwood Pines Sanatorium mental hospital, 60 years before the events of the previous game. The protagonist is tormented by nightmares and can’t remember how he got here. He must unveil the grim mystery of the place, despite the fact he keeps getting injected with all sorts of medications that cause him to experience strange visions. The Inpatient lets us experience horrifying scenes, explore dark locations and interact with characters we meet. There are also decisions to make during crucial moments of the story that affect its development. The Inpatient focuses on immersion, using FPP view and letting us choose dialogue options by reading aloud one of a few available on the screen.

A spin-off to the well-received horror game Until Dawn. This installment is a typical rail shooter developed with PlayStation VR goggles in mind. As per genre's tradition, the player is tasked with quick and effective elimination of everything that moves. In addition to enemies, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood is also filled with typical jump-scares that resemble the ones used in amusement parks.
