NBA Live Video Game Series

A series of basketball games simulations, branded by the American NBA league. The brand is owned by Electronic Arts, and its development is overseen by the developer's internal studios (EA Canada and EA Tiburon).

The roots of the series date back to the 1980s. In 1989, Lakers versus Celtics and the NBA Playoffs hit store shelves, which started the NBA Playoffs series, considered the direct predecessor of NBA Live. Under its current name, the brand has been known since 1994, when NBA Live 95 was released. For the next 15 years, new installments of the series launched at regular one-year intervals. Due to weaker sales results, the publisher decided that it was time for a change. The result was the replacement of the previous developer, EA Canada, by the EA Tiburon team. Work on the new game, which was to initiate a series of NBA Elite, lasted more than three years. In the end, however, it was decided to stay with the current naming, releasing NBA Live 14 as a launch title on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles.

A sports game created for the fans of basketball and released by Electronic Arts. After the three previous installments, which were average games at best, the developer was given more time to create this new follow-up. Thanks to that, NBA Live 18 brings a few interesting novelties. Above all, the game introduces The One mode - the player creates their own character and takes part in matches in The Streets mode and The League component (the latter is the NBA league). The player works on the skills of their character while experiencing the game, acquires new outfits and tattoos. Apart from that, 12 teams from the WNBA league (women's NBA) were featured, such as L.A. Sparks, Minnesota Lynx or New York Liberty. When it comes to gameplay, the creators prepared more intuitive controls, as well as hundreds of new moves the particular basketball players are popular for. The game offers both single player and multiplayer (competitive and co-op) modes. One can experience the Ultimate Team, and the Takedown modes, but also play friendly matches.

NBA Live Mobile is a mobile edition of the popular series by Electronic Arts, distributed through a free-to-play model with microtransactions. In terms of mechanics, NBA Live Mobile is a basketball version of the Ultimate Team mode known from FIFA – NBA’s sister series; it combines features of a typical simulator with elements of a collectable card game. During the game, players choose an NBA basketball team to take charge of, and their main goal is to lead that team to the top. The centerpiece of this game is managing the team. As a manager, the player has to set the team’s tactics and sign new players, who become available gradually through subsequently unlocked (or bought for real money) card packs. After building the team, players take part in different games, trying to meet various challenges provided by the developers. In terms of technology, the game is one of the best looking, and the most complex titles available on mobile platforms.

Another annual edition of one of the most popular sports games devoted to basketball. After a several-year break, the franchise returned to the traditional annual release cycle in 2013. Compared to its two poorly-received predecessors, NBA Live 16 brings a considerable number of changes and novelties. Mechanics-wise, the most notable ones include the new LIVE Motion system, which is responsible for AI-controlled players behavior, and physics-based movement model. With the latter, the controls were thoroughly revamped, now giving more control over the basketballers’ actions. The wide range of game modes was enriched with two entirely new ones: LIVE Run — an outdoor online competition of two 5-people teams — and Summer Circuit, in which we travel throughout the USA with our team and play against local opponents. The title is also integrated with the constantly updated system of statistics and leaderboards maintained by Synergy Sports Technology.
