Remastered and expanded version of the Sonic Generations platformer from 2011, combining 2,5D and 3D gameplay. Sonic X Shadow Generations offers both the original content, as well as the new campaign in which Shadow is the main protagonist.
Sonic X Shadow Generations is a remastered and content-expanded version of the 2011 platformer titled Sonic Generations. The game was developed by the Sonic Team studio, and its release was handled by SEGA, the company overseeing the brand.
Sonic X Shadow Generations offers two stories. Fans had the opportunity to experience the first story in the original. Classic Sonic is known from the first games under this brand. Modern Sonic was appearing in the newer parts of the series. They must join forces to once again thwart the sinister plans of the villainous Eggman (Doctor Ivo Robotnik).
The protagonist of the second story is Shadow, the great rival of Sonic, whose task is to confront his nemesis - Black Doom. In order to prevent Black Doom from taking over the world, Shadow must travel back in time, confront painful memories, and unlock new powers, thereby reaching the fullness of his potential.
Sonic X Shadow Generations is a hybrid of a classic sidescrolling platformer and a 3D platformer in which the action is viewed from a third-person perspective (TPP). During the game, we rush through the stages at incredible speeds, jump on platforms and avoid traps and obstacles, as well as get rid of enemies. On the way, we collect golden rings, which we lose when we take damage.
Sonic X Shadow Generations stands out from the original thanks to its refreshed graphics.

Nintendo News: 8 / 10
Sonic x Shadow Generations is a consistent and polished experience that reflects the love Sonic Team has for their series and that could absolutely be called a game “made by Sonic fans, for Sonic fans.” But even though Shadow Generations shows players a glimpse into the future, it falls short of being the future itself by being tied to the past through Sonic Generations. It’s a step in the right direction for sure, but with one foot forward and the other backward, it’s difficult to, in good faith, see Sonic x Shadow Generations as a “revival” or a full-on “evolution.” So, though it may provide diehard fans with the time of their life and the disillusioned with just enough hope to keep on going, it doesn’t quite reach the peak needed for it to be a defining moment for the series.
Nintendo Life: 9 / 10 by Oliver Reynolds
In what can only be described as a monumental return to form for both hedgehogs, Sonic X Shadow Generations combines two excellent campaigns to create what is likely the very best 3D Sonic game so far. The remastered Generations content remains a delight, taking you through some of the series' most iconic stages, but Shadow's new chapter represents the franchise's 3D gameplay at its very best. It introduces a bunch of awesome new abilities while showcasing some of the most creative stages we've ever seen, and we're keen to keep replaying to nail those crucial S-ranks. Alas, there's still no Chao Garden, but we'll keep hoping and praying for its inclusion in the future. The future of 3D Sonic looks bright.

Gamers who haven’t played a Sonic game in a long time will find that this is a great entry to get back into the series and become acquainted with Shadow, the franchise’s most entertaining character.
