Plot
When an object of unknown origin appears near Earth, a group of researchers called SCAR is sent to investigate it. After approaching it, the team is mysteriously teleported to the surface of an unknown planet.
The main protagonist of Scars Above is Kate Ward - a scientist and astronaut stuck on this dangerous world. Her goal is to find the remaining members of the group, discover the cause of their predicament and find a way home. On her quest she also learns more about the unknown, enigmatic planet.
Mechanics
The gameplay of Scars Above is shown from the third-person perspective (TPP). The player must explore the planet and battle monsters inhabiting it. There are also environmental puzzles to solve and barriers blocking the way to destroy.
There are plenty of diverse locations to visit, such as gloomy wastelands, dark swamps and mysterious structures seemingly constructed by an ancient civilization. During our quest we're hindered by various monsters. We can eliminate enemies with a wide arsenal of futuristic weapons and gadgets. Throughout the game we also gather resources used to craft new equipment or upgrade it.
Technical aspects
The visuals of Scars Above are rather decent. The designs of visited locations may be especially appealing.

Scars Above is a great addition to the library of single player adventures and it tells an engaging sci-fi story that interrogates ideas of genetic manipulation, free will, and sacrifice. While it loses momentum a little towards the end, it serves as a fantastic advertisement for smaller budget games and is well worth picking up.

Scars Above is a well-crafted third-person shooter with plenty of options to take on the punishing alien world you find yourself in.

Perhaps if Scars Above had put more work into the areas where our lead heroine has to explore this strange world and analyze it more in order to solve various puzzles, basically letting her be the scientist she is, it could have been vastly better overall, or at least help give it a better identity to help it stand out more.
