Savage Resurrection for PC is a multiplayer game, mixing the elements of an action game and an RTS. It’s a remake of Savage: The Battle for Newerth from 2003. The game was developed by S2 Games studio, the creators of the previous game, also responsible for titles such as Heroes of Newerth, or Strife.
Mechanics
Savage Resurrection for PC, is a multiplayer-only game. The gameplay consists of battles between two factions – humans and beasts. Just like the predecessor, the game is a hybrid of an action game and an RTS. Each game can be joined by up to 32 players, divided into two 16-player groups, and each player controls one character. When the character uses a firearm, the game switches to first person perspective. If the character uses a melee weapon, the camera switches to third person perspective.
What separates this title from other typical multiplayer games, is the fact, that each team has a seventeenth player, who plays the role of the commander. From his perspective, the gameplay looks like a classic RTS. From top-down perspective, he has to gather resources, construct buildings, research new technologies and build siege weaponry. The commander also gives orders to other players from his team, but they are not forced to comply. Nevertheless, complying to orders is a good idea, as the lack of cooperation will quickly result in a lost game.
Savage Resurrection also includes a game mode, in which the commander’s role is taken over by AI. The possibility to practice with bots is also available.
Technical aspects
Savage Resurrection for PC bases on the solutions presented in the first installment of the series, but improves them immensely and offers a completely new graphical layer, created using Unreal Engine 4. Thanks to that, the graphics are much better than in the prequel. The interface and sound effects were also improved.
The online matches are based on dedicated servers. Among them, we can find those set by the developers, or by the players themselves.
