Developed by Unknown Worlds Entertainment, a commercial continuation of the free mod for Half-Life 2. Natural Selection 2 is set in a universe torn by the war between the falling human race and space invaders. Players choose a side and take control of either one of the Frontiersmen - an elite group of highly-trained marines - or one of the several hostile alien life-forms, dubbed as Kharaa, each possessing unique combat strategies.
Natural Selection 2 for PC continues the trend set by its ancestor, which is a free modification for Half-Life 2. The title combines multiplayer FPS elements with real-time strategy rules. The developer – Unknown Worlds Entertainment – went to great lengths to make the game as good as could be. In the outcome, players are presented with new races, fully-interactive maps, improved graphics, and gameplay for 32 players. All of this is powered by the developers’ proprietary engine.
Plot
The plot takes the player to a war-torn universe in which declining mankind fights space invaders. You need choose your side and fight to tip the balance.
Gameplay
Depending on the side, you can take control of a Frontiersmen marine or one of the hostile alien Khaara life-forms, such as a wall-running Skulk, pudgy George, flying Lerk, murderous Fade, and gigantic Onos. Each of these classes requires adapting different strategies. Natural Selection 2 features extensive, interactive maps where you can find objects and visit locations that can directly alter the course of a match – you can cut off elevators’ power supply or switch off lights in the marines’ base. Such options make each match unique. The Commander makes the game even more diverse – given a top-down view of the map, he can erect different structures, support his squad and plan actions for his teammates.
