A third-person action game developed by Team Ninja studio (known from titles like Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden) under the supervision of Koei Tecmo company. We play as a samurai fighting against various enemies, among which we will find both humans and monsters. We cut our way through the enemies not only with conventional weaponry, but also with special abilities of our hero and the magical power enchanted in his sword. Gameplay is a mix of games like Onimusha and Dark Souls. This means that the difficulty level is high and it forces the player to make use of different tactics, dodges, blocking and powerful, complex combos. Interestingly, game has been announced as early as 2005 and was supposed to be one of the launching titles for PlayStation 3. However, due to a few complications, the developed has been postponed, and the final game will make it now to next generation of consoles.

Another installment in the series of action games about the samurai. The series started in 2002 and has been developed ever since by the Japanese studio Acquire. The story in Way of the Samurai 4 is much more expanded in comparison to its predecessors. The game takes place in Japan in 1855 where an internal conflict takes place between the traditionalists and the advocates of technological development and cooperation with other countries. The player assumes the role of a wandering samurai whose looks and traits can be adjusted to fit the player’s preference and playstyle. At the beginning of the game the protagonist travels to a fictional city Amiham where he must join one of the sides of the conflict. The choice will determine how the rest of the story develops. The gameplay is similar to the previous installments of Way of the Samurai. It’s a dynamic action game filled with impressive battles. During the game player uses samurai weapons - including the traditional katana. The game offers a variety of attacks and battle skills. Interactive cut scenes enrich the game and make it more interesting.

You take control of one of the clans and begin making efforts to be honored with the privilege of ruling the whole country as the new shogun. To accomplish that goal you need to manage diplomacy, military operations and economical development of your territories. Almost every aspect of game mechanics has changed since Shogun: Total War’s release (except of the basic foundations of the gameplay). Brand new AI algorithms made battles more realistic than ever. Statistics of generals and units are improving with player’s progress. Naval combat and multi-stage sieges have been added, and weather conditions have greater impact on battles than before. Main story campaign can be played in either single- or multiplayer mode (in cooperation with or against other player).

A standalone expansion for Total War: SHOGUN 2 strategy game and a part of the Total War series by Creative Assembly. The add-on offers a new campaign set in the Empire of Japan in times of the civil war between the Emperor’s supporters and the last shogunate. The player can side with either faction, each of which is represented by six families. At the same time, it is a conflict between the traditional Japanese samurai culture and the modern firearms-based army. Technological advancement of our faction and the available units are largely dependent on our relations with overseas superpowers. Total War: SHOGUN 2 - Fall Of The Samurai offers an expanded campaign map, railway transportation, additional units and agents, and a new kind of battle: port siege. The introduction of firearms, especially the Gatling gun, is also a great innovation. Apart from the aforementioned campaign, the expansion comes with 4 historical battles and an updated multiplayer mode.

The player assumes the role of a samurai and chooses his side in the conflict. It is worth mentioning that each path has a different ending. The basic of the gameplay is combat. The enemies can be defeated by using many types of melee weapon. One can also create his own weapon by using parts found during the game. The impressive duels are waged during story missions that are sometimes supplemented with minigames. It is also possible to form a team with a mercenary who will help us in combat in exchange for completing a mission for him or sharing a house. Way of the Samurai 3 offers clean, but not very impressive three-dimensional graphics.

An upgraded version of the fourth installment in the Samurai Warriors series, which came out for the tenth anniversary of the franchise. Developed by Omega Force, the game was released not only for Sony consoles, but also for PCs. The game is a conventional TPP hack-and-slash, featuring spectacular battles. Samurai Warriors 4-II is set in Feudal Japan, and the player takes part in subsequent skirmishes, fighting both smaller groups of enemies and entire armies. The game offers dozens of Japanese characters to choose from. In comparison to the basic version of Samurai Warriors 4, this edition brings several significant changes. The game introduces two modes - the Story Mode (offers thirteen new scenarios) and Endless Castle (a mixture of the Survival and Challenge modes from the previous installments). Gameplay as such was modified, as more emphasis was placed on strategic elements, an ability to combine weapons (to obtain more powerful versions) was added, and the character development system was remodeled. Apart from a single player experience, the creators included a co-op mode.
