Total War: Shogun 2 Description
Total War: Shogun 2 is an epic strategy game created by Creative Assembly. It continues the tradition of the series by combining turn-based strategy with tactical battles in real time.
Plot
The action takes place in the 16th-century Japan, in feudal era when the country was torn apart by clans fighting with each other. You become one of ten Daimyo (clan leaders) who all want to rule the entire Japan as a new shogun.
Mechanics
In order to accomplish that goal you need to take care of diplomacy, economy and war. Statistics of your generals and units in armies are improving with your progress in conquering the realm. What’s important, there are complex tutorials for each aspect of the game so that even amateurs can quickly learn basics and start playing.
Veterans will appreciate the fact that an AI system was created from scratch and it is now based on Sun Tzu’s The Art of War. Real time battles are even more realistic than in previous Total War games. Up to 56 thousand units can be displayed on map at the same time. The weather may have a significant impact on the battlefields. Sieges are split into several stages and give many options, such as setting fire to buildings in order to flush out hostile troops hiding inside. Also the naval battles have been improved. It is now possible, for instance, to fight by the shore; it allows to hide fleets behind isles or to set traps for enemy ships on shallows.
Game modes
You can play the campaign alone or with a friend. In the second case you can fight with each other or join forces against AI. Also the multiplayer mode has been enhanced. Before you start playing, you need to create your general (an avatar). As you make progress in matches, he collects experience points which can be spent to improve his skills. The centre of the multiplayer mode is presented in the form of a strategic map divided into several regions. Victories in each section give access to specific special abilities and new units. Up to 8 players can take part in online matches. Users’ accomplishments are also marked in leaderboards.
