Saints Row 2 is an official sequel to the 2006’s action game for PC, PS3 and X360 that in many aspects references the Grand Theft Auto series. Since the continuation mostly based on the tried ideas, it does not introduce too many revolutionary changes but rather expands some of the gameplay elements. Yet again, we assume the role of a gangster who belongs to one of several competing gangs. We take part in jobs that involve winning illegal races or eliminating members of the competing factions.

Plot

As we progress, we acquire respect points – which are required to unlock new missions – as well as money that can buy better weapons, vehicles, or clothing. We don’t take most missions on by ourselves, though, rather in a group. Assuming control over city districts is of great importance since it allows us to expand our influence. The game was developed by Volition, the creators of The Punisher and Red Faction series, among other titles.

The action of the sequel takes place several years after the events presented in the original Saints Row. The city of Stilwater, which can be freely traversed, becomes our battlefield once again. The protagonist we know from the previous title wants to take revenge on the traitors because of whom he lost his influence and got into serious trouble.

Mechanics

Saints Row 2 puts an even greater emphasis on free exploration of the game world. The town of Stilwater presents somewhat different and has visibly grown, as well. As a result, we can visit numerous, entirely new locations and revisit the places we perfectly know. To roam the city, we use many different means of transportation. These include not only cars but also motorcycles, boats, choppers, and planes. The vehicles we own can be tuned up as much as we want.

Saints Row 2 also features more customization options. It especially concerns the protagonist. We can now select his gender, age, and even voice. Naturally, it is still possible to set the details of facial appearance. Modifications can also concern the look of our hideouts and cars. The primary missions can be played either solo or in cooperation with another player. Moreover, the game comes with a separate competitive multiplayer mode.

Technical aspect

The graphics of Saints Row 2 for PC, PS3 and X360 presents a higher quality level than the first installment of the series. It applies for the appearance of the environment and the characters. The action is still observed from the third-person perspective.
