Mechanics

RymdResa is focused mainly on exploration. We won’t experience traditional combat — the only threats unusually are forces of nature, not actual enemies. The players can sit in cockpits of eight strongly different ships, each being largely modifiable. While exploring, we gather raw materials and technologies as well as discover secrets that let us devise increasingly better parts for our vessels. Our pilot can also be developed. In his adventures, we acquire experience points that can be spent on enhancing his statistics. The skill tree is very extensive and allows the protagonist to specialize in such fields as exploration, technologies, survival talents, and the ability to find and extract raw materials.

The game world is generated procedurally, so we will experience new adventures in each playthrough. In total, we can discover over three hundred objects such as planets, starts, and abandoned space stations. The production is a sandbox but also offers a myriad of specific missions to complete. Moreover, we will regularly be faced with random story events that often require us to make difficult decisions.

Technical aspects

RymdResa for iOS, PC and etc. was made in an unusual variant of retro style, with colors being scarce and distinctly interlaced, which resembles cutscenes from 8-bit computer games. The production’s soundtrack, composed by Tom Croke and Pat Jacobs, is also interesting. Each spaceship received its own unique music theme.
