Other options include ski jumping, alpine slalom, fast and figure skating, bobsleighing and even curling. Each of the competitions can be played on three levels of difficulty, both in the form of a single competition and a career mode, offering forty-two separate challenges. Taking part in any of them is tantamount to choosing a suitable sportsman from a list of licensed players and using his or her abilities in the fight against opponents.

You can fight with artificial intelligence or real opponents - on a split screen or in hot-seat mode. In the first variant, two people take part in the game at the same time, and the second variant is for four people. Regardless of the number of players, the action is still presented from the third-person perspective. Camera views only change when watching replays.

Compared to the previous part of the series, the authors of RTL WinterSports 2009 have made technical changes - they have enriched the characters' silhouettes with more details, improved the players' animation and added new landscapes to the locations they visit. The sound has also been changed - the game features a professional commentary and it has more sounds, including those for the environment.
