Röki is a point-and-click adventure game developed by the independent Polygon Treehouse. The studio was founded by Alex Kanaris and Tom Jones, developers who were previously working in Guerrilla Cambridge, under the wings of Sony Interactive Entertainment. The production, which is the studio's debut project, was released on PC.
Plot
Röki takes us to an unusual world where realism is combined with fantasy elements taken from Scandinavian mythology. Players take on the role of Tove, a girl who sets off on a dangerous journey to save her family. The heroine also has to deal with evil powers which are embodied by the titular Röki.
Mechanics
The action in Röki is observed from a side perspective. The gameplay focuses on conversations with encountered NPCs (not all of them are friendly) and solving environmental puzzles. However, exploration is also important (during the adventure we visit the ice-bound wilderness and snowy forests), which is diversified by climbing, jumping from platform to platform and squeezing through crevices.
Technical aspects
Röki's strong point is the simple, colourful graphics design, stylized as an animated film. This is complemented by an atmospheric soundtrack.
