Rogue: The Adventure Game Description
Rogue: The Adventure Game is a cRPG created in 1983, considered to be the progenitor of dungeon crawlers. The players assume the role of a brave daredevil who sets out to an underground labyrinth to find the treasures hidden therein.
The game works in text mode and does not make a sound. The protagonist is represented as a character in ASCII code, much like the rooms, items, monsters and pretty much everything else. There are 25 beasts to beat, each of those is described with a letter (e.g. B is Bat, S is Snake). The player moves with cursor keys, while the interaction with monsters happens automatically upon contact. The protagonist has an impressive arsenal of weapons and items at his disposal. Every won combat gives us experience points which allow us to advance the level of our character and increase his attributes. One of the biggest advantages of Rogue: The Adventure Game are randomly generated dungeons. Thanks to it, every walkthrough will be a different experience.
Rogue: The Adventure Game is an absolute classic that made history. Despite the lack of audiovisual layer, it can be played for hours. The game was inspiration to many later titles that, out of respect, are sometimes referred to as “roguelike”.
