A sequel to the hybrid of a strategy and action game. Similarly as the first title, it was created by ACE Team. The gameplay mechanics are mostly based on the first game in the series and are focused on competition between the players. Each player has a castle that they must protect. The castles are connected by a long, winding path.
Rock of Ages II: Bigger and Boulder is a crazy hybrid of action and strategy game developed for PC, PS4 and XONE. The title was developed by ACE Team, the creators of the first installment in the series that was released in 2011.
Mechanics
The basic gameplay mechanics of PC, PS4 and XONE version of Rock of Ages II: Bigger and Boulder haven’t changed much in comparison to the first game. It is an action game enriched with features of a tower defense strategy game. The gameplay focuses on rivalry between castles connected by a long path. Each side alternately attacks the opponent’s stronghold by taking control over a rocky ball. The opponent is defending himself by buying troops and buildings and positioning them in such way so that they stop, throw off the path or slow down the opponent’s rock.
Rock of Ages II: Bigger and Boulder offers many changes and improvements. During the game the player must roll their balls through locations that reference to various eras of the art history. This includes levels inspired by ancient Egypt, gothic, renaissance and surrealism. They were all parodied in the style based on the animated sections of Monthy Python’s Flying Circus. This time the game is mostly focused on multiplayer – especially the mode in which two teams of two players face each other. The players can modify their banners and colors of their units.
The title introduces many new unit and rock types and has improved physical engine that improves the behavior of objects on the maps. It also makes the destruction more impressive and realistic. It is worth adding that Rock of Ages II: Bigger and Boulder was developed on Unreal Engine 4.
