FPS with roguelike elements, in which we play the role of a robot exploring postapocalyptic Earth and fighting hordes of hostile machines. In Roboquest you can play solo or in a cooperative mode designed for two players.
Roboquest is an FPS with roguelike elements. It was developed by an independent French team RyseUp Studios.
Plot
Roboquest takes us to 2700 year. As a result of devastating wars and rapid climate change, most of the Earth's surface is no longer habitable. Remnants of humanity have moved to the desert, fighting every day for survival and fearing the robots that have taken over the planet.
One day, a young picker named Max finds an old robot in the sand, which she manages to re-activate. The duo embarks on a journey filled with danger to confront the machines, find who controls them, and try to reclaim their lost world.
Game mechanics
In Roboquest we observe the action from first person perspective (FPP). During the game we take control over the robot called the Guardian. In his "skin" we explore various locations, among which we can find vast canyons, ruins of old civilization and constructions built by robots.
In each of these places we fight hordes of enemies waiting for elimination. During the game we face a variety of opponents - from walking machines similar to us, through units hovering above the ground, to robots equipped with powerful drills that can quickly move under the surface. Battles are incredibly dynamic, thanks to an extensive arsenal that includes dozens of weapons (the list includes machine guns, rifles, lasers, rotary cannons, sniper rifles, and even bows) and the impressive mobility of the Guardian. The robot moves fast, can do double jumps and do lightning fast dodges. Moreover, shooting with two guns at the same time is not a big problem for him. As we progress, we gain better equipment and various upgrades, as well as unlock new skills that increase our combat potential.
Game is inspired by roguelike genre. Levels are procedurally generated and the camp is our base where we are reborn after death. It's worth noting that although after defeat we have to fight our way through the locations again, we keep all the arsenal we've got and all the upgrades we've unlocked, which makes it much easier to approach the game again.
Game modes
In Roboquest you can play solo or in a cooperative mode prepared for playing as a duo.
Technical aspects
Roboquest runs on Unreal Engine technology. The graphic design of this game is made in cel-shading technique, whereas dynamic soundtrack is a work of Russian musician called Noisecream.

Roboquest proves that all you need is a well-done experience which keeps things exciting even if its gameplay is intentionally standard.
XboxEra: 7.5 / 10 by Jesse Norris
Roboquest is a ton of fun, though it never feels great on a controller. It does feel good enough to recommend on Xbox, though. The devs get what it takes to make a solid run-based title, utilizing their years in early-access to craft another title worth checking out on Game Pass.
Gaming Age: 9 / 10 by Brendan Reilly
If you’re looking into dipping your toe into the Souls/rogue-like pool, I would strongly recommend giving Roboquest a look.
