Road Rash
Motorcycle races enriched with one very diversifying element, namely the fight. We take part in a number of dangerous rallies, and whether we win depends on our ability to drive a motorbike and acrimony in combat.
developer: Electronic Arts Inc. publisher: Electronic Arts Inc.
Arcade racing game without any rules prepared by Electronic Arts, in which crazy motorcyclists compete on the roads of the United States. The title is a conversion of the 1991 hit from Sega Genesis console and brings slight improvements compared to the original.
Mechanics
Road Rash is an arcade racing game where it's as important to get around corners quickly as it is to eliminate your competitors with targeted fist punches and white weapons. The competition is fast and the motorcycles move in an unrealistic way, but the authors made sure that the game was not too simple. During the competition, players must observe the level of endurance of their rider, as well as the technical condition of the motorcycle. When the first one falls to zero, the character will fall off the vehicle and lose many valuable seconds to return to the struggle. Destroying the bikes automatically ends the race.
For further successes in the competition, players earn money that can be spent on new machines with better performance. The money earned is also used to finance repairs and fines if a motorcycle is destroyed or a participant falls into the hands of the police. The creators have prepared a total of fifteen vehicles differing in performance, which are divided into three classes. Each of them can be set off on one of twenty-five routes in different sceneries and regions of the United States.
Game modes
Road Rash offers two fun modules and the option to compete against a live opponent on a local network or on a split screen. The basic mode is Big Game, where the goal is to become the king of American roads. To achieve this, players must be the best on all tracks, beating their competitors in three consecutive leagues. Much more simplified, with no options to raise money and buy motorcycles, is The Thrash, where the axis of fun is a joyful demolition and brutal rivalry with competitors.
Technical aspects
Production from Electronic Arts is a 3D racing game. Compared to the original from 1991, the authors have added a soundtrack that includes, among other things, strong rock songs by Soundgarden. New FMV inserts also create a suitable climate for bikes competing against each other.
