WipEout 2097 Description
WipEout 2097 (in the USA also known as WipEout XL) is a continuation of a futuristic racing game, which was originally released in 1995 and gained popularity thanks to a faithful sense of speed and a fairly high level of fun difficulty. The game was created again by the British studio Psygnosis, and the title went to PC, PlayStation and SEGA Saturn, although it was also converted to Amiga and Mac computers.
The action of the game takes place in the title year 2097, i.e. more than 40 years after the events presented in the first part of the series. Since then, one of the most popular sports of the future has evolved strongly, and the original F3600 league was replaced by the much more difficult and dangerous F5000 AG. The cars themselves, which are characterized by higher speed, acceleration, maneuverability and durability, have also changed.
The very concept of the game has not changed, however, and during the game we again participate in the brutal antigravitational struggle of machines, competing with AI-controlled players at several increasing difficulty levels. The game takes place on completely new routes, and a number of new weapons and power-ups have been made available to players. Unlike the original, where opponents could only be slowed down, this time we have the possibility of permanent damage to their cars, and the degree of damage during the race shows a special indicator.
Compared to the original WipEout 2097, it has a significantly improved graphic design, making use of modern 3D cards, which are essential for fun. On the other hand, the soundtrack maintained in techno/trance climates is at an equally high level. The creators also took care of the possibility of competition for 2 people, via Internet connection or in the local network.
