Rise of Kingdoms (previously known as Rise of Civilizations) is a real-time strategy with RPG and MMO elements. Game was developed and published by Chinese company Lilith Games. The title is distributed in a free-to-play model with micropayments.

Plot

RoK allows us to lead a chosen kingdom and guide it towards domination over the others. Game lets us rule such nations as Rome, Britain, Germany, France, China or Korea. In addition, there are historical figures who play the role of commanders of our troops. We are talking about Julius Caesar or Joan of Arc.

Game mechanics

In Rise of Kingdoms we observe the action in isometric view. We start the game with a small settlement and its expansion is our most important task. We gather resources, thanks to which we can construct new buildings and improve the ones we already have. Next, we take care of the economic base of our kingdom and put up a powerful army, which will be able not only to defend our domain but also to conquer other territories. We're talking about conquering vast territories, as well as taking control over small objects of great strategic importance (such as mountain passes). Besides, by sending out scouts we discover the secrets of the game world, with its treasures, abandoned temples and secret caves.

We play the game on a vast map (the camera can be freely zoomed in and out). War for influence is fought here by various civilizations and Barbarian tribes, so sooner or later we have to join the struggle. Battles take place in real time, which allows us to quickly react to the actions of enemies and efficiently perform a variety of tactical maneuvers, such as posing as attacks and leading the counterattacking enemies into the field. Commanders, whom we recruit as we progress, have unique abilities that increase the combat potential of our army. Like in RPGs, over time we develop these characters, gaining access to increasingly powerful skills.

As conquering the whole world alone is not an easy task, it's worth thinking about forming strategic alliances in advance, so that we can expect help from other kingdoms in case of need.

Game modes

The main element of RoK is the multiplayer mode. Players can attack each other or cooperate with each other, and coordination of actions is facilitated by a chat with a built-in translation option.
