Ripout is an FPS with survival horror elements. It was developed by the Pet Project Games studio and published by 3D Realms, known for its contribution to the shooter genre.

Plot

Ripout offers us a grim vision of a relatively near future in which biological weapons created by humanity to help it defend itself against space invaders have turned against their designers. Those who survived left Earth to search among the stars for the legendary Asylum, their last safe place. Along with them, however, a deadly threat set out on their journey, from which they tried to escape...

During the game you play as one of the last Earth soldiers whose cryogenic sleep ended in 2084. Together with a handful of other survivors, the protagonist travels through shipwrecks full of mutated creatures in search of the last bastion of humanity.

Game mechanics

In Ripout we observe the action from first person perspective (FPP). Game is divided into missions, during which we explore wrecks of spaceships and fight hordes of enemies. The locations are procedurally generated, which means that although the missions themselves are relatively short (they last 10-20 minutes each), they provide a slightly different experience each time we try them.

Eliminating enemies, you must often hurry up, because they can improve themselves on the spot, including by attaching smaller mutants to them or with the help of technology found elsewhere. Among the creatures that stand in our way, we'll find both regular enemies and much more powerful bosses. How to fight such enemies? We can use the Pet Gun, which is a self-aware weapon. Depending on our needs, it can take the form of a rifle, flamethrower, pistol, as well as slightly more sophisticated tools of murder. The game also allows us to choose the specialization of the character.

Game modes

Ripout allows us to play solo, but it spreads its wings in online co-op mode. The difficulty level continuously adapts to the number of players.

Technical aspects

Ripout graphics has a grim style. Tissue covering the decks of the ships, selected enemies and weapon designs evoke associations with the first game from the Prey series, released in 2006.
