Aliens: Fireteam is a third-person shooter using the licence of the iconic Alien. The game was developed by Cold Iron Studios, which was an independent team when work on the game began in 2016, but as a result of later turmoil found itself under the wing of Disney. Eventually, Daybreak Games took care of the developers and their debut game.
Plot
Aliens: Fireteam begins 23 years after events shown in original Alien trilogy. The crew of USS Endeavor receives a message from the planet Katanga asking for help. They are quickly confronted with the horror that Ellen Ripley experienced over two decades earlier.
Mechanics
In Aliens: Fireteam we move through locations (observed in TPP) together with two allies and we deal with hordes of dangerous aliens. We start the game by creating our own commando, choosing his appearance and one of five classes: shooter, technician, medic, scout and demolition expert. This decision results in an arsenal and skills, which we will use in the fight against the cosmic plague. Enemy ranks are represented by more than 20 types of adversaries (including 11 aliens), and each is characterised by different behaviour and abilities.
Just like in Left 4 Dead or Vermintide series, the gameplay does not limit to shooting aliens controlled by artificial intelligence. We must also perform specific tasks. In addition, along with the progress in the game we develop the combat potential of the hero, strengthening his skills and improving and modifying equipment.
Game modes
In Aliens: Fireteam there are four story campaigns. Each of them consists of three missions, which can be played with up to two friends over the Internet or alone. In the latter case, the actions of the remaining heroes are directed by an AI. Players can also increase the difficulty level, which translates into more lethal aliens, enabling friendly fire and limiting the amount of available resources (including ammunition).
