Pecket conversion of successful production into iOS with action taking place in a world combining references to Nordic mythology and steampunk climates. The game has a very interesting combat system, referring to paper board games from years ago, in which the fight was based on dice throws.
Rimelands: Hammer of Thor is an action RPG created by the Finnish studio Dicework Games, referring to the traditional "dungeon of crawlers". The iOS version debuted in 2010 on the App Store and received positive reviews. Work on conversion to PC and Mac started in 2011. When creating versions for desktop computers, the creators benefited from funding obtained from the IndieGoGo service.
The plot of the game was created anew for the PC version and is not very complicated. In Rimelands we play the role of Rose Cristo, who lost her parents in childhood when pirates attacked their Sleipnir II aircraft. Since then she has been raised by her grandmother. One day, following one of the wolves she encounters, she encounters an entrance to a cave over which there is a sign that she had seen twenty years earlier on the clothes of the attackers. Rose enters and we begin an adventure with her that will discover the secrets of her past and take us into a world of Nordic mythology and steampunk climate, where thousands of years before the game's plot began, people had to descend to the underworld when magical beings took control of the earth.
The most interesting element of the game is a dynamic and interesting combat system. It refers to traditional board games, has a turn-based character and is based on dice throws. Character development is reminiscent of other RPG action games, although in Rimelands it has been reduced to the minimum necessary - if you travel through alternative areas of Scandinavia, you can choose one of three specialization paths, and the character is equipped with only four items, including two types of weapons and armor. In total, the game guarantees from 8 to 10 hours of entertainment.
Graphically, due to the isometric projection and cartoon execution, Rimelands is confusingly reminiscent of the production of the studio Runic Games - Torchlight. Music contributes to creating a mysterious atmosphere, especially when exploring the unknown underground, and sometimes strikes epic, known from other fantasy tones. A level editor is also included in the game, which allows you to create new levels in a simple and accessible way.
