RIDE 5 Review - Less Gran Turismo, More MotoGP Vibes
We used to call the RIDE series “Gran Turismo for motorcycle lovers.” However, it seems Milestone has now a different vision, and brings RIDE 5 closer to MotoGP. It plays great but something important was lost in the process.

RIDE 5
We used to call the RIDE series “Gran Turismo for motorcycle lovers.” However, it seems Milestone has now a different vision, and brings RIDE 5 closer to MotoGP. It plays great but something important was lost in the process.
RIDE 5 Description
RIDE 5 is the fifth installment in a series of racing games, enjoying a similar level of popularity and respect among motorcycle racing series as Gran Turismo does among car racing series. Just like the previous installments, the game was developed by the Italian studio Milestone, specializing in various motorcycle sims (such as the MotoGP series).
Gameplay
The RIDE are so-called simcades, combining simulation and arcade elements (though emphasizing the former). They also offer many assist options - in this installment based on artificial intelligence - to ensure even newcomers can have fun.
There are over 200 motorcycles of different classes (racing, street, tourist, etc.) available, as well as over 35 tracks - these include authentic racetracks and scenic roads all around the world.
The game revolves around the career mode, in which we gradually climb local and international rankings. Throughout competitions we earn credits, spent on new machines or upgrading already owned ones. We can also paint our bikes or helmets with custom colors. For the first time in the series, the game features a narrator and ten personalized opponents, each with their own backstories and personalities.
RIDE 5 also introduces various improvements in motorcycle simulation, such as tire deformation (which is visual as well), suspension system, chain operation (for more realistic acceleration) or driver-machine interaction.
The endurance races making a return from RIDE 4 have also been changed - it is now possible to save the game during the race and rewind time to reverse mistakes.
Game modes
In addition to career mode and other singleplayer modes (such as race creator), RIDE 5 also features split-screen and online multiplayer (supporting cross-platform).
Technology
Thanks to abandoning eighth generation consoles, RIDE 5 offers both the aforementioned simulation improvements and enhanced visuals. Especially noticeable are volumetric clouds, which translate into prettier, more advanced dynamic weather and time of day changing during races.
