Return to PoPoLoCrois: A Story of Seasons Fairytale, prepared by Marvelous AQL studio specializing in creating jRPG games like Half-Minute Hero and Valhalla Knights, is an interesting combination of Harvest Moon series with elements of tactical, turn-based RPG. The production uses the characters and the universe of PoPoLoCrois manga.

Plot

Return to PoPoLoCrois: A Story of Seasons Fairytale tells the story of Prince Pietro Pakapuki, who has just started his thirteenth year of life. His birthday marks the beginning of his extraordinary adventure in the world of Galariland, which has been haunted by dark creatures. Pietro sets out to help the inhabitants of the land, whose farms suddenly stopped growing crops due to a mysterious power. He realizes on the spot that he won't be able to return home until he defeats the evil. During his adventure, the Prince will establish various relationships with other characters known from the PoPoLoCrois universe, including the forest witch Narcia and the legendary White Knight looking for a sword.

Mechanics

Return to PoPoLoCrois: A Story of Seasons Fairytale combines RPG mechanics with elements characteristic for the Harvest Moon series. On the one hand, the player has to manage the farms found during the journey, breed animals or harvest crops to perform various side tasks and obtain additional funds. On the other hand, we have exploration and battles done in a system similar to many tactical RPGs. Unlike many classic titles of this genre, Return to PoPoLoCrois modifies the basic combat mechanics, allowing, e.g. the heroes to move freely around the selected area within their turn.

During the adventure, players can also participate in many mini-games, like digging diamonds and collecting insects, as well as establishing relationships with NPCs. This works like in the older Harvest Moon games, allowing players to improve the relationship between heroes by giving gifts or talking with them.

Technical aspects

Return to PoPoLoCrois: A Story of Seasons Fairytale takes advantage of the unique features of 3DS and allows, among other things, to discover additional secrets using StreetPass function. The game is characterized by cell-shaded graphics and is distinguished by hand-drawn cut-scenes referring to the work of Yousuke Tamori who created the world of PoPoLoCrois.
