Resolutiion

Resolutiion is an action adventure game with logical elements, shown in 2D perspective. It tells the story of an aging killer who has to escort an curious AI through the world of the Infinite Empire. The game is the debut work of two brothers from Germany, who have been working on the project independently since 2015. The gameplay focuses on intense battles with enemies, exploration and the story told, and the devs were inspired mainly by the classic instalments of The Legend of Zelda series.

Plot

The action of the game takes place in a cyberpunk, specific world full of both technology fanatics and its enemies, cynical deities and strange furry animals. The story is about an old killer whose job is to escort a Bolshie the Worm through a maze under the Sea. Bolshie is not a living creature, but a curious AI who helps us to solve the mysteries of Cradles scattered around the labyrinth. We learn the whole story mainly through dialogues with NPCs and by making use of collected items.

During our journey we will also learn about the fate of a betrayed friend and broken family. Travelled areas differ in their atmosphere and enemies, while offering many secrets to discover.

Mechanics

The world is divided into areas that we enter after reaching the border of the previous one. While exploring them, sometimes we will have to run away from a mysterious, huge cat digging tunnels in the ground and hunting the main hero. From time to time, our actions will be commented on by the accompanying bot, and from his statements we can obtain additional information about the game world lore. The map, which is unlocked when you enter a particular location, makes navigation through the areas easier. From time to time, to get to the next area, we will have to solve various logical and arcade puzzles. Their type determines the characteristics of the place where they occur - it can be a quiet Cloud City, Phantom Pit filled with merciless machines, half empty desert and others. The game is saved by entering one of the special glyphs, scattered over available areas.

As the game progresses, we get access to new equipment and weapons. Some are used for melee combat (sword), others allow to get rid of enemies at a distance. Our enemies also benefit from a diverse arsenal, so during every fight we have to manage our hero's actions wisely. Some of the available items also allow you to overcome obstacles in the field. For example, due to special powder we can paralyse our enemies or remove special crystals from our path. In addition to normal enemies, powerful bosses with unique abilities stand in our way. Some of the actions performed, e.g. special attacks, dash or sprint, consume the hero's condition, and its lack makes it impossible to overcome some obstacles.

Technical aspects

Resolutiion graphic design in pixel art style refers to old adventure games, and in addition to focusing on the atmosphere of a destroyed, cyberpunk world, it also provides very low hardware requirements.
