Renoir is the debut project of the independent studio Souldbound Games that secured necessary funding thanks to a crowdfunding campaign at Kickstarter. In the game, we assume the role of an experienced detective, James Renoir, who is to solve his last case.

Renoir is an atmospheric platformer game with logic elements for PC, PS4 and XONE, drawing inspiration from the classics of the noir movie genre. The title is the debut of Soulbound Games, an independent Czech studio founded in 2013. The development was supported by a fundraiser at Kickstarter.

Plot

In the game, we assume the role of an experienced detective, James Renoir, who has to solve his last case. In the course of the investigation, the protagonist will face not only the city full of fear, corruption, and crime but also difficult events of his own life. As we progress in the story and piece subsequent pieces of the puzzle together, Renoir will discover a number of carefully hidden secrets of the city and will eventually come to terms with his dark past.

Mechanics

The gameplay combines elements of classical platformer and detective adventure games, and while exploring subsequent atmospheric locations, players will encounter both arcade elements as well as simple logic puzzles. Despite being powered by the advanced Unreal Engine 4, the developers used a side view which is typical for platformer productions. The game’s graphics combine the visual style known from the cult Limbo and a dark ambience of classical noir movies.
