A production that comprises all elements of Reigns as well as Reigns: Her Majesty - popular games that mix card game, strategy and roguelike genres, in which the players have to make decisions that affect the entire kingdom they control. In comparison to the previous installments in the series, the game stands out thanks to its multiplayer mode.
Reigns: Kings & Queens is a yet another Reigns production developed by Nerial that combines the elements of strategy, card, and roguelike games and released on Nintendo Switch. Reigns: Kings & Queens comprises the content of all the installments in the series – Reigns and Reigns: Her Majesty.
Plot
In Reigns: Kings & Queens, players get to meet two royal dynasties. While the king representing the first one is trying to stay on the throne in a very cartoonish yet original version of Middle Ages, the queen from the second dynasty is trying to maintain her rule in the kingdom set in a humoristic version of the 18th century.
Mechanics
No matter which époque you choose, in Reigns: Kings & Queens for Nintendo Switch your task is to managing your kingdom and making multiple decisions. It is up to the monarch to pass sentences, providing for the loyal subjects, taking care of the economic growth of the kingdom, and maintaining diplomatic relations with neighboring countries as well as different factions. Additionally, players can arrange marriages and order brutal assassinations.
One should remember, though, that all the choices have consequences and are reflected later in the history of the kingdom. Player's decisions can even cause the death of the monarch – in such situation, players have to start over by becoming the successor of the deceased king or queen.
All Reigns games feature original controls – during the game, random cards are selected. Each card hides demands addressed at the monarch. The player then has to swipe each card right or left (just like in Tinder application) to decide in favor or against a particular demand.
Game modes
Reigns: Kings & Queens features both single and a local cooperative multiplayer mode – the latter one for up to two players.
Technical aspects
In terms of its visuals, Reigns: Kings & Queens does not deviate from what the previous installments had to offer. The game features simple 2D visuals that perfectly fit the game's atmosphere.
