Railgrade is an economic strategy with simulation elements. It was developed by indie Japanese studio Minakata Dynamics, and was published by Epic Games.

Plot

Railgrade takes us on a journey to the future, when humanity has already colonized other planets. We become the leader of one of the extraterrestrial colonies. Bad luck that it fell victim to a catastrophe that led to the collapse of its entire infrastructure. On our shoulders rests the task of rebuilding it, and if we succeed, we may be allowed to return home.

Game mechanics

In Railgrade we observe the action from a top-down view. Our task is to develop the transportation infrastructure for the resources mined on the planet and the goods produced there. Resources are transported with the help of trains, and in order to keep everything running smoothly and without any downtime, we have to create efficient and the most capacity supply chains possible, creating a network of rail routes. The matter is not simple, because the more developed our colony is, the more complicated the whole network becomes. In addition, there is no shortage of terrain obstacles on the planet, the avoidance of which often requires displaying ingenuity.

Over time, our colony begins to regain its former splendor; by investing in the expansion of cities, we secure sources of additional profits. In addition, in exchange for completing more objectives, we receive tokens, with the help of which we unlock new industries and various improvements. In addition, we should pay some attention to the trains themselves, which we can modify by selecting various locomotives and types of cargo. The game allows us to watch our creations up close, in a special movie view mode.

Game modes

Railgrade offers an extensive story campaign, which consists of more than 50 missions. In addition to the tasks pushing the story forward, there are various side missions waiting to be completed.
