Spacelordsis (Raiders of the Broken Planet) is a science-fiction action game created by MercurySteam - a developer popular for titles such as Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, Clive Barker's Jericho or Scrapland.
Plot
The game is set in far future, on the titular Broken Planet located in the Lyra constellation. A mysterious substance named Aleph was discovered there a long time ago. Aleph can substantially increase the capabilities of living organisms, thus crowds of those interested in using it began to travel to the planet.
The game begins when the planet has already been turned into the warzone where numerous criminal organizations fight one another. The stake is high here, for the faction that wins will take control over the Aleph deposits, which practically allows them to control the entire galaxy.
Mechanics
Spacelords offers a traditional story campaign in the form of a series of episodes released one after another. However, the multiplayer mode is the core of the game. The player fights large-scope battles involving two factions. One is called the Raiders and the other one are the Invaders. The player makes use of many futuristic firearms, as well as different kinds of melee weapons.
The multiplayer mode was designed in an asymmetrical manner, for the two sides of the conflict are different in every aspect that matters. Their weapons, characteristics and abilities are completely different, which means controlling one faction comes with a different experience than the other delivers. Also, the players have to develop unique tactics adequate for each of the two teams.
