Radiant History: Perfect Chronology is a complete remake of Radiant Historia, one of the best rated RPGs released on the Nintendo DS console at the end of 2010. The game was developed by Atlus. The project was led by the creators of the original, as well as Mitsuru Hirata (Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey) and character designer Masaki Hirooka.
Plot
The action of Radiant History: Perfect Chronology takes us to the original yet dying fantasy world. Its main continent called Vainqueur is slowly covered by a deadly desert. The kingdoms of Granorg and Alistel are struggling for the remains of land that is suitable for living and cultivating. The protagonist is a young warrior named Stocke. The protagonist accidentally encounters a mysterious book that takes him to another dimension called Historia. There, he learns that this place gives him the ability to move to the past, present and future of his world. Soon, he decides to change to Vainqueur's fate by trying to prevent events that will lead to its imminent extinction. He is accompanied by friends and allies met during the mission. The remake includes an additional storyline, along with new scripts and characters. The veterans of Radiant History can skip a large part of the original story and start playing the new content.
Mechanics
Radiant History: Perfect Chronology is a classic jRPG game with turn-based and tactical combat system. The game's biggest attraction is the ability to travel in time, a feature similar to that used in Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross. Players travel between different specific points in time in a clear graph visualizing three separate and alternative lines of Vainqueur's history. By making certain decisions, we influence the shape of the world and the fate of people living in it.
Players explore the full three-dimensional locations shown in isometric projection. We can speak with NPCs and perform various side quests. The fights take place on a separate screen, in an arena with grids. Our party can consist of up to three heroes. Everyone has a set of special skills and attacks, which are becoming stronger as they gain experience. Unlike the original, Radiant History: Perfect Chronology has three difficulty levels (friendly, normal and hard).
Technical aspects
Radiant History: Perfect Chronology offers a completely new three-dimensional graphics design. Soundtrack was composed again by Yoko Shimomura (known from Kingdom Hearts series, Final Fantasy XV, Legend of Mana) who added completely new music tracks to the existing ones. The title also has voice overs, absent from the original, as well as previously unseen animated cut-scenes.
