Rack N Ruin, released on PC and PS4, is a top-down action-adventure game referring to the classics of the genre from the 16-bit era. The game was created by an independent LifeSpark Entertainment studio.
Plot
In Rack N Ruin, the authors decided to reverse the classic theme of the battle between good and evil by putting players in the role of a villain. We play as the evil demon named Rack, one of the faithful servants of the darkest master of darkness, known as Ruin. Our protagonist is sent to one of the planets of the universe with the mission to turn it into ashes and enslave the people living there. However, Rack will have to face both good champions and a whole lot of demons who escaped the evil from control.
Mechanics
Traveling through an open world and numerous dungeons of Rack N Ruin, our hero will face enemies and bosses, as well as a number of puzzles. As a weapon, Rack uses a combination of traditional weapons, magic, demonic powers and special items gained during the game. We also meet many independent characters, learning about their tragic fate caused by our actions. We can capture these souls and trade them for strengthening our abilities.
Technical aspects
In terms of graphics, Rack N Ruin combines the style of classic action/adventure games, such as The Legend of Zelda, with inspirations from contemporary indie games such as The Binding of Isaac. Former Blizzard employee Tyler Hunter, who has worked on such legendary titles as World of Warcraft , StarCraft 2, Diablo III and Prey, is responsible for the old-school, hand-drawn graphics.
