Evoland
Evoland is a production that interactively illustrates the evolution of action adventure games. We start the game in simple monochromatic graphics, and then by completing the tasks we gain further improvements, both in terms of graphics and gameplay mechanisms.

Evoland is an unusual action adventure game that lets us examine the development of this genre since the 8-bit consoles era to the PlayStation 2 technology level. The production was created by Shiro Games. The project is based on the fundaments of a game created within 48 hours for the Ludum Dare 24 competition, which it won.
The game interactively presents the evolution of both action adventure games such as The Legend of Zelda, as well as the Japanese RPGs like Final Fantasy. We start our journey in monochromatic graphics period, where everything is build with a few pixels and the gameplay is driven by incredibly primitive controls and interface. The players have to acquire enhancements that introduce, for example, the ability to move diagonally or a save game option.
The abovementioned type of gameplay continues throughout the entire Evoland. With time, we will enrich the game with logic puzzles and complex combat system, unlock more enemy variety, including bosses, and even fight some RPG-like turn-based battles. All of these changes are accompanied by the visual evolution – the initially monochromatic graphics with time turn into 16-bit colors and eventually transform into fully three dimensional engine straight from PlayStation 2. Everything is presented in strongly humorous style, full of jocular references to classic games and franchises.
