QubiQuest: Castle Craft PC

QubiQuest: Castle Craft is a real-time strategy game with action and sandbox elements. There are two main layers the game is built of: building a heavily fortified castle and defending yourself against armies sent out by dark deities. The game was developed by a Swiss studio Twin Earth - the team is largely composed of the developers responsible for the TPS Morphies Law.

Plot

The game is set in a land known as Valusia. The main protagonist, after getting into a drunken tavern brawl, is sent to the Oxgardian prison. As a result of a terrible mistake, however, rather than receive the appropriate punishment, he becomes the leader of King Debimius' army. His task is to rebuild the kingdom and defend it from the Old Gods' armies, rising in the Wastes of Hastur.

Mechanics

The gameplay of QubiQuest: Castle Craft revolves around building fortifications in order to stop increasingly more dangerous invasions. It is up to us how we'll defend ourselves. We can go for high walls surrounded by a moat and tall towers with archers and defensive machines. We can also spend our funds to upgrade our army instead and send it out to do battle against the attackers. The main protagonist can be developed in a similar way - as well as turn the tide on his own, when we take direct control over him in a third-person perspective.

After preparations, we must face the Old Gods' armies. Each victory causes the enemy to try and adjust to our tactics as well as find our weaknesses. The better we do, the more powerful the enemy will be later on. They're capable of deploying flying skeletons to overcome our walls, powerful siege machines or boulder-throwing fortifications-wrecking giants.

Technical aspects

QubiQuest: Castle Craft uses voxel-based graphics to capture the scale of destruction during the siege (breaches in the walls, collapsing towers, etc.).

The developers have also included mod tools, which let us create our own monsters, kingdoms and castle elements. Our creations can then be shared with the game's community.
