Stronghold Legends: Steam Edition Description
Stronghold Legends: Steam Edition is a unique edition of the standalone expansion to the second installment of the Stronghold series, enhanced for the purposes of the Steam platform. Besides a number of changes and improvements introduced in its basic version, the players also receive exclusive content available on Valve's distribution platform together with the focus on distinctive RTS elements.
Plot
Stronghold Legends: Steam Edition for PC offers three unique single player campaigns. The first campaign tells the story of the legendary King Arthur, who manages his lands from the majestic Camelot castle. The player has the opportunity not only to test the abilities of Merlin, but also to take part in the search for the Holy Grail. The plot of the second campaign focuses on the figure of Sigurd, Fafnir's Bane, the greatest hero of the Norse mythology, while the third is the history of Vlad Dracula and the hostilities directed against the Ottoman Turks.
Mechanics
Our campaign choice determines not just the appearance of buildings, but also the types of available units. Therefore, we can now use both the regular infantry force and the previously unavailable magical and flying units. Among such extraordinary combatants are werewolves, dragons, even ice giants; additionally, battle wizards are able to cast powerful offensive spells, which revolutionize the traditional combat formula established by the previous games from this series. The Glory Points are a brand new resource and they are earned during fights with opponents. They provide access to special constructions, which increase the honour of our main character. When compared with the main instalments of the Stronghold series, the administrative and economic aspects of the game have been simplified and automated. Moreover, Stronghold Legends: Steam Edition is further distinguished by extremely detailed and diversified maps, as well as additional single player campaigns.
Game Modes
In addition to the previously mentioned campaign, Stronghold Legends: Steam Edition offers a skirmish mode, where we can battle against the AI. The developers have also implemented a multiplayer variant of the game, which utilizes the capabilities of the Steam platform, the multiplayer offers various modes, e.g. Deathmatch, King of the Hill, Economic War (where the key to success is to collect the required amount resources before your opponent) and Capture the Flag. Nothing stands in the way of cooperating with other players against AI opponents.
Technical aspects
Stronghold Legends: Steam Edition for PC is based on the technology created for Stronghold 2. Developers managed to improve the overall quality of the visuals, mainly by increasing the texture details, improving the lighting and adding new effects, such as dynamic shadows. In addition, the game takes advantage of the Steam platform, allowing for numerous achievements and trading cards.
