Game mechanics

PC’s version of Quarantine is a strategy based on turns, in which our objective is to detect diseases, slow down their spread and research therapies to cure the infected. This comes down to recruiting specialists and sending them to different parts of the world. Our employees belong to one of four basic categories: medics, scientists, diplomats and agents of security forces. The creators also included a skill progression system, which makes losing experienced staff really painful. Additionally, we must collect samples, conduct research, upgrade technology and – like the title suggests – set up quarantines to prevent infections from spreading. This earns us funds depending on our efficiency, which we must spend on our command center and equipment, as well as setting up mobile bases at places affected by the pandemic. Protecting cities is crucial, and failing at that task leads to chaos that we have to deal with.

Quarantine features diseases caused not only by viruses, but also by bacteria and prion. Each threat has unique characteristics, effects and the way of spreading. Interestingly, their behavior and development is managed by complex modules of artificial intelligence, which do all they can to outsmart us – including getting through quarantines and mutating to become immune to the already developed therapies. Many elements are randomly generated, so players can play the game a few times without being bored. This is even more emphasized by three difficulty levels and alternate starting locations.
