Psychic Force is a three-dimensional port of a arcade machine fighting game, prepared by the Japanese developers at Taito, in which duels are fought between warriors with extraordinary powers.
Story
The world of the future. In addition to ordinary people, the Earth is also inhabited by Psychiccers, i.e. people endowed with powerful mental powers, which enable them to use supernormal abilities and control the elements. Their talents make the other inhabitants of the planet mistrustful of them and are often met with hostility. This leads to the creation of the NOA group, whose intention is to create a world only for superhumans. The organization is led by a young British man named Keith. His plans do not meet with the approval of some Psychiccers. They form a resistance movement led by Burn. Over time, the members of both formations clash in an open conflict.
Mechanics
Psychic Force enables us to control nine characters that differ in agility, strength and power. You can choose between 18-year-old Burn Griffiths, who controls fire, 17-year-old Sonia Ryan, who controls electricity, 24-year-old Brad Kilsten who uses gravity, or 34-year-old Richard Wong, who has power over time.
The battles take place in oval arenas, where the heroes fly using the power of levitation. They are surrounded by a special net, which hurts them at contact. This is one of the elements that influence the uniqueness of the title. As part of the system developed by the creators, light and strong attacks, as well as blocks are at the player's disposal. By using the right combinations of buttons, they can also use grabs, execute special attacks, and chain their attacks into more damaging combos. Using special abilities consumes energy, which slowly renews itself during the duel, but can also be replenished faster by charging after holding three keys.
In addition to the typical arcade mode and the option of having fun by two players on a common screen, the devs have also prepared a story mode, where the players can learn about the plot backgrounds of individual heroes. In the multiplayer mode, the devs applied a specific solution - in case of a draw, there is an overtime game in which the character who first lands a blow, wins.
Technical aspects
Psychic Force is a three-dimensional fighting game, in which the character models adopt a unique style, evoking associations with Japanese animation. A few months after the release of the title, a related OVA was launched.
