Protöthea is a classic shooting game in which the player sits at the helm of a futuristic spacecraft and begins a mass extermination of enemy forces. This game originally debuted on personal computers. However, after a few years of break, it was decided to release the described conversion, intended for WiiWare customers. The game requires a fee of 1000 Wii Points.
Protöthei's story takes place in an undefined future. The player takes on the role of a spacecraft pilot, to whom two very important tasks are assigned. The main character must first of all contribute to the destruction of the asteroid Maqno 01. In addition, the plans of the political faction called The Core, which aims to build an army of deadly biomachines, must be thwarted. In total, there are ten different levels to overcome, located in four worlds. The action of most of the stages takes place above the surfaces of planets.
The player-controlled spacecraft is equipped with many different types of weapons (rockets, laser guns, bombs, etc.), so that it is able to eliminate both other aircraft and ground targets. In addition, the controlled machine can collect and use a variety of power-ups, allowing, among other things, to slow down the passage of time, making it much easier to eliminate enemy units.
As you explore new worlds, you have to deal with about fifty different types of enemy units. The AI of enemies dynamically adapts to the player's actions and the situation on the battlefield. There were also definitely more powerful bosses, mostly in the form of warships that were difficult to destroy.
The control takes full advantage of the unique features offered by the Wii console. The spacecraft shown on the screen is controlled using the Nunchuk. The Wii-pilot is used to target and eliminate enemies. The competition is carried out in a three-dimensional environment, although the action is observed from a bird's eye view. However, there is no shortage of special effects accompanying the battles fought on the screen.
