Prominence for PC is a classic first-person point‘n’click adventure game set in a futuristic science-fiction world in which the player solves all kinds of puzzles and performs numerous tasks. It was developed by Digital Media Workshop.
Story
In Prominence, the protagonist wakes up in a completely unknown place. He is surrounded by modern and incredibly advanced medical equipment – all sorts of computers, surgical instruments, bioscanners and carts with pharmaceutical drugs. He doesn't know where he is or how he got there, he can't even recognize and determine the purpose of the numerous objects that surround him. Confused and lost, he tries to find out how he ended up in this supermodern complex and what is the purpose of it. While traversing the subsequent locations, he quickly realizes that handling this task will not be easy, and the secrets of the mysterious room network can be unraveled only by accessing the incredibly rich databases stored in local IT systems.
The developers used the relatively low popularity of science-fiction themes in computer adventure games to show the big potential of futuristic worlds. The creators decided to design a non-linear story that allows the player to decide the fate of the protagonist in key moments. Depending on the path chosen, we will visit a different set of locations and solve different puzzles. Thanks to this, we are not forced to look for the one and only way forward and the game offers several diverse endings.
Gameplay
The gameplay consists primarily of a large number of connected tasks that mostly challenge the player’s intelligence and deduction skills. What is important, individual puzzles usually have multiple solutions, sometimes very diverse, which offers a lot of freedom and rewards ingenuity as well as the ability to think outside the box. Arcade elements are almost absent, so Prominence sticks to the classic point‘n’click principles.
Technical aspect
The characters of Prominence for PC were given a professional voice-over, thus making their lines sound more authentic and believable. The soundtrack composed by the Digital Media Workshop team of musicians under the leadership of Tom Griffith also deserves attention. The graphics quality level does not exceed the standards of the genre and is based on prerendered 3D locations with a significant number of animated objects.
