The fourth installment in the very popular Myst game series (the first part was released in early 1990s). It is a classic adventure game with static backgrounds. The fourth part goes back to the roots of the franchise (when taking into consideration Uru: Ages Beyond Myst), which means that the players traverse beautiful, very detailed background locations and control the game only with the mouse.

Myst IV: Revelation aims to satisfy both the newcomers and those who already have a warm spot in their hearts for the series. Several well-known plot threads return in the game. The player gets to learn the fates of Sirrus and Achenar, the two villains from the first Myst. As a punishment, they were separated and confined in two different worlds that would serve as their prisons. The main story, however, concentrates on a disappearance of a certain girl. In order to find her, the player must travel to the two prison-worlds. It turns out that the only way for the case to come to its conclusion is to understand the motives driving the captives.

The worlds you visit will remind you of the ones that appeared in the previous Myst games. They are filled with puzzling constructions and many of them hide secrets for the player to discover. The fundamental feature that puts the new Myst aside from the other chapters is its non-linear gameplay. There are moments, when you have to make choices that will have a tremendous impact on the story and its ending. As always, much of the time in the game will be spent on solving puzzles, most of which were prepared by Sirrus and Achenar.

Myst IV: Revelation was tweaked to make full use of the potential offered by contemporary PCs. The player moves around beautiful environments and, from time to time, encounters other characters, whom he can talk to. All NPCs are played by real actors, appearing in multiple cut-scenes. Interestingly, the game allows you to take pictures, which are collected in a special journal, where you can access them at any time. The game’s soundtrack was created by the famous video game composer Jack Wall and featured Peter Gabriel.
