Prey 2 Description
Prey 2 was supposed to be the second installment in the sci-fi FPS series initiated in 2006. The production was supervised by the Human Head Studios team – authors of the first part of the series, as well as such games as Rune and Blair Witch, volume two: The Legend of Coffin Rock.
The game in question entered the proper production phase in 2009, and it had its first official presentation two years later. In 2012, the company responsible for its release, Bethesda Softworks, announced a delay in the entire project. Then in 2014, the publisher announced that the project had been cancelled.
In June 2016 Prey 2 project was replaced by the announcement of Prey from the team at Arkane Studios. Nonetheless, this new project only shared the title and the broadly understood science fiction theme with the first part of the series and its unrealized sequel.
Story
The story in Prey 2 was supposed to to take place after the events presented in the first installment of the series. The main character of the game would be Killian Samuels, who would be abducted by aliens and taken to the planet Exodus, where he would begin his career as a bounty hunter. How his future would unfold would largely depend on our actions and the decisions we would make.
Interestingly, although it was initially planned that the main character of Prey 2 would be Tommy, known from the first installment of the series, this idea was ultimately abandoned. Nevertheless, he was supposed to appear in the sequel as a mentor for the new protagonist.
Gameplay
In Prey 2, the action would be viewed from the first-person perspective (FPP). Developers were planning to give us an open world. The driving force of the game would be missions, during which we would earn money and push the story forward, mainly by hunting targets indicated by the clients.
Our activity as a bounty hunter would often involve chasing fugitives and taking part in shootouts. The protagonist would eliminate enemies, making use of futuristic firearms (like a pistol or shotgun) or fighting hand-to-hand. Besides, he would not be unfamiliar with the art of taking cover or grabbing opponents and using them as living shields.
Exploring the neon-lit metropolis would be made more attractive by a parkour system comparable to that in the Mirror's Edge or Dying Light series. Samuels would be able to slide on surfaces and jump over low objects, among other things.
Based on all of that it's fair to say that Prey 2 would be significantly different from what the original offered. However, it is worth mentioning that the initial concept involved basing this project on the mechanics of creating portals and gravity manipulation, known from the first part of the series. Ultimately it was decided to thoroughly refresh the entire concept.
Engine
Prey 2 was to be based on id Tech 4 technology, which powered not only the original Prey, but also games such as Doom 3, Quake 4 and Wolfenstein.
