Pressure Overdrive is a refreshed version of Pressure from 2013, developed by the creators of the original game – Chasing Carrots. Just like the first edition, this title is published on multiple platforms, including PC, PS4 and XONE. This is a shoot’em’up game rounded off with racer elements.
Plot
Pressure Overdrive takes players to a steampunk world ruled by Count Soap – a ruthless businessman and a biological regeneration industry magnate. His newest investment (named Uber-Spa) requires draining water from a local area. Naturally, this grew resentment among its inhabitants who decided to stand against him and form a resistance movement called “La Resistance.” The hero is one of them. He drives a steam-powered buggy with which he faces hordes of motorised soldiers hired by the antagonist.
Mechanics
Pressure Overdrive for PC, PS4 and XONE features the top-down perspective. During gameplay, you drive through various tracks, avoid numerous obstacles, jump from ramps which give you temporary boosts, and, most importantly, battle masses of opponents. While regular enemies pose almost no threat, defeating three, giant, war-machine-sized bosses requires resorting to every available measure and making best use of your firepower.
This is where spending points on new weapons comes in handy – you can make use of rifles, laser cannons, and rocket launchers. These are complemented with the destruction tools unavailable in the original game. Moreover, each weapon power can be amplified, which gives you an edge over the enemies. What is noteworthy, the developers spent a considerable amount of time working on the control system which is inspired by twin-stick shooters.
Game modes
Pressure Overdrive offers game modes for solo players and local co-op. In contrast to the original title, there is no Internet multiplayer. Instead, players can follow online highscores and compare their results with the players around the world. Your score depends on your combat accuracy and finishing time of particular tracks.
Apart from the basic game mode – the campaign composed of +30 levels – the title features Endless mode in which you face waves of opponents. Additionally, the tutorial helps the new players get acquainted with the game.
Technical aspects
The visuals in Pressure Overdrive are pleasant, colourful, and slightly humoristic. The characters, vehicle models, and various special effects that accompany dynamic battles are especially enjoyable.
