Ponpu is a charming arcade game inspired by the iconic Bomberman cycle. It offers some new ideas for gameplay mechanics. Purple Tree Studio studio has developed the game.

Ponpu is an arcade game, which refers to the classic Bomberman cycle with its gameplay model and mechanics. The game enriches this formula with new ideas and solutions. The game was developed by Purple Tree Studio. Zordix Publishing and Green Man Gaming Publishing are the publishers.

Mechanics

In Ponpu we observe the action from top-down perspective. The gameplay is about moving around the map and planting bombs, thanks to which we blow up various elements of the terrain and enemies. In doing so, we must act wisely, create traps in which we catch our enemies and avoid explosions caused both by ourselves and by other players.

From time to time we also collect items during the game (e.g. (keys) and we solve simple puzzles that open up further sections of the area. As the game progresses, we also develop our hero, gaining access to new abilities that make it easier to cope with the next challenges.

Game modes

We can play Ponpu alone or with others. The game features a story campaign and a local and online multiplayer mode focused on competing with other people. The developers have prepared several different modes, such as Deathmatch (the winner is the player who manages to beat the others and survive), Coin Chase (try to get as many coins lying on the map as possible), Color Fight (explosions paint fragments of the board in a colour related to a given player).

Technical aspects

Ponpu has quite original, 2D graphics. The graphics stands out with an unusual artistic style - the artists use only a few colours. The game world is most often shown only in white and brown colours (although in some maps there are other colours), but the characters have elements (e.g. eyes) with a single, distinct colour (red, green, yellow or blue). Explosions caused by the hero are also linked to the colour of the character.
