Pocket Trains Description
Pocket Trains is an economic strategy focusing on rail transport available on iOS and AN. The game was released in a free-to-play model with microtransactions. It was developed by the NimbleBit studio, which has made a name for itself on the mobile market thanks to titles such as Pocket Planes, Tiny Tower and Nimble Quest.
Mechanics
The game is a typical economic strategy. We begin our career modestly, with a small railway company, which we need to turn into real market power. Our trains can transport both people and numerous goods. It is, of course, necessary to select the right tasks and routes so that they are as profitable as possible. The action takes place on a map of the whole world, which allows having separate branches of the company working on particular continents.
In Pocket Trains, available on iOS and AND, we build the tracks connecting the individual stations. Each connection is assigned to a different color, which makes things more transparent. When planning a transport route for specific goods, we can, of course, use several different lines and trains to form a single link. The action takes place in real time, which forces good coordination of transfers and transhipments.
We invest the money we earn in building new tracks and buying additional trains. The game also has options to modify the latter and improve them with more and more modern parts. All this needs to be properly balanced so that we are always in the black and do not drive the company into debt. The gameplay is diversified by special events, which are an opportunity to earn a lot of money and are only active for a limited time.
Technical aspects
The game's serious theme is accompanied by humorous graphic design, with funny characters and a pixeled retro style.
